Today I want to talk about blogging, and why I believe it is such an important tool to have as a part of one’s online presence. In today’s world, adding a blog to your website is almost a pre-requisite for any business or personal website. People want to know who they are dealing with, and they prefer to do business with those they know and trust. Your website is about you, or your product or service. What better way then to let your visitors in on your expertise then to spell it out for them?

Writing on your blog need not be some long arduous chore either. Blogs lend themselves to short, concise blasts of information. Keep people up-to-date with the latest goings-on in your business, or your industry. Write about the latest industry trends, or give visitors a behind-the-scenes look at your business. And don’t just do it in writing. If you can include video (yes, let your visitors see how wonderful a person you really are!), even better! After all, if a picture is worth a thousand words, then video must be worth at least a million I would think!

There are more advantages to keeping up with a blog on your website than outlined above. Here are a few other points to consider.

You can build your expert status by being able to go into more detail about what you know than your website’s static pages will let on.

Keep your “community” (clients, customers, fans, etc.) up-to-date with the latest news about you or your business. Encourage participation and comments.

Lending your personal “voice” to your visitors is a great way to build rapport and credibility. Let them get to know and like you!

Attract more new and repeat visitors:

By promoting your blog’s RSS feed, existing visitors can be notified whenever there is a new post

Updating your website frequently with new content is looked upon favorably in your Google page rank

Each blog post contains a keyword and SEO-friendly permalink (we make sure our clients have the proper settings for maximum SEO potential)

Combine with Twitter to get your name out to even more people. Tweeting your blog entry not only helps your link equity by creating backlinks on such a strong authority website, it also has the potential to draw more people to your site that are already interested in what you have to offer!

This is just a simple rundown of the benefits of having a blog on your website. Don’t worry about having to create posts every day. Write as often as you feel comfortable. The appropriate frequency varies from company to company, and person to person. Once you get the hang of it, you will develop a feel for what your audience demands. And hey, speaking of demand, what better forum to find out what your visitors are interested in than the comments section of your blog?!

To that, Happy Blogging!!
